How to Make Sure There’s Something for Everyone During Your Vacation
Hey Travelers!
This is April with Adventures with April Mae, your go-to family vacation planner. I understand how challenging it can be to ensure that every family member - from toddlers to teens to adults - has a fantastic time on vacation. Don’t worry, I’ve got your back with some tips and tricks to make your vacation a hit for everyone involved.
Know Your Crew
First and foremost, knowing your travel companions' likes and dislikes is crucial. Whether it’s toddlers who have endless energy, teens who love adventure, or grandparents who want to relax, asking the right questions can make all the difference.
- Family Preferences Survey: Kick things off with a fun survey to gather everyone’s preferences. At Adventures with April Mae, I like to start with a vacation questionnaire to understand what each family member is hoping to get from the trip. Trust me, it’s much easier to plan a trip when you know if someone’s dreaming of beach time while another wants a water park. Plus it makes everyone feel included!
Choose the Right Destination
Different age groups and interests? No problem! Here’s how to find the perfect spot:
- Cruises: These floating wonderlands often have something for everyone. The kids clubs and teen lounges are exceptional, offering age-appropriate activities that lets the kiddos have fun while parents can relax or join adult-centric activities. Best part? It’s included!
- All-Inclusive Resorts: Many of these resorts cater to multi-generational families. Think activities for the kids, spa, and golf for the adults, as well as organized events for everyone to enjoy. Research is key- and guess what? As your travel advisor, I would handle this for you!

Planning a vacation isn’t a solo mission. Getting everyone involved is not just fun, but also ensures that everyone’s desires are considered.
- Family Meeting: Before booking anything, have a family pow-wow. Each person should pick an activity they want to do. This makes everyone feel included and excited about the trip.
- Example: When I organized my family's trip to Disneyland, I had my family pick their must-do rides, food, or shops. My teens loved being part of the process and it made the trip more special for them.
Multi-Generational Travel Tips
- Limit City Tours: Consider limiting the long city tours or excursions that might tire out younger kids or seniors. Instead, find activities that can cater to all - like a family-friendly cooking class or visit to a serene park followed by a relaxing lunch.
- Different Interests? No Problem: Let’s say you’ve got a golfer, a spa enthusiast, and kids who can’t get enough water parks. All-inclusive resorts often have facilities to accommodate these diverse interests. Everyone gets to do what they love, vacation harmony secured!
